Vintage Scrollsaw

Vintage Craftsman Scroll saw
This is my first scrollsaw. It was given to me by my grandfather when I was about 10. I'm not sure of the exact age of this machine, but I think it dates back to pre world war 2 early 1940's. This is about as basic as it gets, the motor is magnetic drive, kind of like a big aquarium air pump. there are no adjustments for tension, the table doesn't tilt. The only adjustment is on the bottom for the motor, it controls the length of the stroke v.s. the noise & vibration, when this thing is out of adjustment it sounds more like an industrial buzzer in a manufacturing plant than a scrollsaw. It uses 5" pinend blades only. It cuts thin stock with ease, 1/4" is no problem either, but it takes some patience to cut even 3/4" pine. Still I had a lot of fun with it when I was young and take it out every now and then just look at or do a little cutting to make sure it still works. The saw is more of a keepske than anything else these days, besides it makes me appreciate my modern scrollsaw!

Mike,

I have what appears to be the same saw. My father in law passed it on to me when he found out I was into scrolling. It was his when he was young back in the 40's. It needs some power cord work so I haven't fired it up but other than that it's held up well.
